i would just like to say that in the nine months i’ve been staffing a teen center, only four girls have come here for drop in hours. none of the girls came alone or with another girl friend. they were all with their brothers or boyfriends. also, the overwhelming majority of teens i speak to when i am doing on street canvassing are dudes. i rarely see teenage girls out at night.
other professionals have said that this is because teenage girls “don’t tend to hang out as much.” i say that it’s because teenage girls don’t feel safe walking the streets alone.
