ok, so hippies usually make me extremely anxious [i’m way too wound up & indignant to just ~~go with the flow] & i really dislike their aesthetics, but the womyn’s full moon love potion making wo wo night was actually a lot of fun! we put a caldron & a bunch of ingredients on a central table next to a bunch of candles & repetitively chanted “we are the witches! we are the witches!” then, we rotated around the caldron adding ingredients to represent qualities that we wanted to see in the potion [i.e. “i’m adding sage for wisdom,” “i’m adding wine to embody the ecstasy of dionysus,” & “here’s water to remind us to stay grounded.”] instead of a drum circle, we sat in a circle & sang nico songs with accompaniment on guitar & flute [somebody also brought a double flute, ie a “native flute” thou…ugh] most of the other attendees were also jewish, so we sang hebrew & english nature songs in honor of tu b’shevat.
the other jews in the room & i decided to continue hosting rosh hodesh circles - we are actually going to start using the rosh hodesh curriculum designed for middle school girls that i have access to through work to facilitate bonding activities based on the biblical texts of the month. i’ve been eager to get more involved with alternative jewish stuff recently [other than palestinan solidarity with jewish voice for peace & the facilitating white priv. workshop] so this will probably be pretty great. i might need to drink more wine to get through these rituals w a straight face though.
