oh fourth wave feminism, in an effort to be inclusive & titillating & generally non-offensive sometimes you entirely overlook the root of things & actually feed back into actively propagating whatever it is you are supposedly against.
the internet-centered “call out culture” brand of feminism has begun to seriously fuck with my sanity. i’m thinking that i have to step back & tune out. maybe even re-read the second wavy stuff i was presented with in high school. because even though a lot of it is messed up (in part, mind you, because organizing around gender-based inequities was revolutionary back in the 60s & ppl were only just starting to figure these concepts out) & sometimes even triggering at least there was some sort of collective need to dig deeper & find connections in lieu of differences.
critiquing even the most aggravating essentialist analyses gender & the state challenges me more than watching as my supposed colleagues lord theoretical knowledge over people who have not yet been exposed to the same feminist cultural reference points & pass off public slandering campaigns against feminists with nearly identical viewpoints as “real change.”
